Biography
Sylvia Bowden studied at the Royal Academy of Music where she was awarded the Leslie England, Else Cross, John Nevil, Cuthbert Whitmore and Grover Bennet solo piano prizes, and a Leverhulme Scholarship.
Chamber Music awards include 1st prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Martigny, Switzerland, the Incorporated Society of Musicians ‘Outstanding Young Musicians’ award, the Greater Arts Association ‘Young Musicians’ award, and finalists at the Royal Overseas League Music Festival.
Performances include recitals on Radio 3, the Wigmore Hall and South Bank, and the Cricklade Festival with the cellist Steven Isserlis.
Sylvia’s continued interest in Beethoven has resulted in several published articles.
Lessons are interactive, and teaching is structured to encourage an understanding of the works studied, enabling students to think and work independently.
