Colin is the Year 2 Academic and Professional Tutor for the Southampton Doctoral Programme in Educational Psychology. His work at the university is a seconded (0.5) role; the rest of his week is spent working for Southampton City Council as an Educational Psychologist.
Colin completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Plymouth in 1993. He went on to train as a primary school teacher in Southampton, obtaining his PGCE in 1997. Following two years working in a junior school in Romsey, he trained as an Educational Psychologist (EP), obtaining his MSc in this from the University of Southampton in 2000.
Colin has worked as a maingrade EP for Southampton City Council since September 2000. During his time there, he has been closely involved in the city's emotional literacy work, including leading on Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) training and the annual emotional literacy conference from 2006 until 2021.
Colin joined the doctoral training programme for educational psychology at the University of Southampton in 2008, initially as a field tutor. He became a course tutor in 2010 (his current role, as Academic and Professional Tutor), coordinating Year 2 of the course.
