Ruth is a registered mental health nurse and qualified social scientist with a longstanding interest in people living with dementia. Ruth is Director of the University of Southampton's Doctoral Training Centre in Dementia Care, and a lead cordinator for the ARC Wessex Faculty. Ruth is a leading international authority on dementia care and citizenship, and co-editor of the journal, Dementia: International Journal of Social Research and Practice. She has published widely on the topic of dementia care and citizenship, including a book on Life at Home for People with a Dementia (with Tula Brannelly). Ruth is a qualitative researcher with a national reputation for her work on diary method, including a book Diary Method (with Christine Milligan). Ruth is regularly invited to speak at major international events, and to review funding proposals and articles. Ruth has strong links with researchers in Norway, where she lived for two years, and continues to work. Ruth is currently leading a scoping project on farm-based social care for people living with dementia, in colloboration with key stakeholders.
