About
Stuart teaches all aspects of anatomy including embryology, gross anatomy and histology, with a focus, as a co-lead, on Foundations of Medicine and Gastrointestinal modules. He is particularly interested in developing innovative methods to teach and integrate anatomy with radiology as well as developing a curriculum fit for tomorrow’s doctor.
As BM5-6-EU Year 1 lead, Stuart manages a team of assessment and module leads to deliver and assess teaching and learning across 5 modules for approximately 250 students. He bridges across faculty and University as a member of various committees including Steering Groups, Staff-Student liaison, Education and Student Experience, and University Senate.

Current research
One of the most difficult concepts a medical student faces when learning anatomy is appreciation of structures and organs in a 3 dimensional environment within the human body. Radiology is a rapidly evolving field that constantly relies upon sound knowledge of this concept particularly when viewing the body in multiple planes. Stuart is collaborating with academic and clinical colleagues and students in Southampton and Glasgow to develop and evaluate new teaching methods to help students overcome these spatial challenges. This includes production of cross-sectional imaging eLearning videos, and whole class teaching of complex anatomy from cadaveric alongside radiological imaging demonstrations.
