INTERVIEW WITH TIM FENTON
Tim Fenton, Associate Professor in Cancer Biology, joined the Centre for Cancer Immunology at the beginning of 2022. He is currently studying a group of seven genes called APOBECs and their role in how successful cancer treatments are in patients. Tim explains his research and who at the Centre influenced his decision to join the team.

Amatta Mirandari is a third year iPhD student working with our colleagues Professor Jon Strefford, Dr Jane Gibson and Dr Helen Parker in the Cancer Genomics, studying a rare disease called Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma (SMZL). Amatta explains her research, why she chose to come to the University of Southampton and how she wants to develop cancer research activity in her home country of Indonesia.
INTERVIEW WITH DR JULIET GRAY – HOPE FOR CHILDREN WITH NEUROBLASTOMA
Sadly, more than 10 children are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day. One of the most common childhood cancers is neuroblastoma. Dr Juliet Gray, Associate Professor in Paediatric Oncology at the University, is leading new UK immunotherapy studies which are looking at improving neuroblastoma treatments and their effectiveness. INTERVIEW WITH DR ALI ROGHANIAN
Dr Ali Roghanian is a cancer immunotherapy researcher at the Centre for Cancer Immunology, studying the cross communication between the tumour cells and cells of the cells of the immune system. This will help provide further insight into targeting of such pathways with novel drugs, to generate an effective and long-lasting immune response against cancer.
Here, he explains why he has dedicated his career to cancer immunotherapy, a new project funded by Breast Cancer Now and his hopes for the future of the field.

INTERVIEW WITH PROFESSOR MARK CRAGG
Mark Cragg is Professor of Experimental Cancer Research at the Centre for Cancer Immunology and is director of the i4PhD Cancer Immunology Pathway, a four-year Integrated PhD in Biomedical Science aiming to develop the next generation of leaders in cancer research.
As a cancer immunologist, Professor Cragg’s research uncovers how the immune system interacts with cancer cells and how it can be harnessed in the form of immunotherapy to treat malignancy; particularly by using drugs called monoclonal antibodies.
Here, he explains why he has dedicated his career to cancer immunotherapy and the Centre is collaborating with other cancer researchers around the world to find more ways of fighting cancer.

INTERVIEW WITH DR SEAN LIM
Sean Lim is an Associate Professor and Honorary Consultant in Haematological Oncology at the Centre for Cancer Immunology. Her position is funded by a Cancer Research UK Advanced Clinician Scientist Fellowship, which enables her to uniquely bridge the divide between laboratory and clinic.
