Artificial Intelligence at Southampton

Gen-ai computer circuits and optics in moody purples and pinks

The AI@Southampton initiative brings together the latest research and expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) from across our university. We aim to accelerate research, education and knowledge exchange in this rapidly evolving and exciting field.

  • Research network

We’re building a network of researchers who are using and investigating AI

  • Partnerships

We're developing partnerships with businesses and policymakers, at home and abroad

  • Funding access

We're helping researchers access funding to use or carry out research into AI

  • Education portfolio

We're expanding our suite of AI courses and degrees, at all levels

Research

Scholars across our university conduct research that both explores, and uses, artificial intelligence. Recent work includes an assessment of the threats posted by online political disinformation and the creation of AI-generated musical love letters.

Undergraduate and postgraduate courses in AI

We offer opportunities to study artificial intelligence at all levels, from undergraduate and master's degrees, to PhDs. On all our courses, you'll benefit from research-informed learning and expertise from across our disciplines, such as computer science, physics, criminology and management. Most of our courses are campus-based, and a number are offered online.

Community engagement

Working with the local community is a key area of our work. We host a range of AI-related activities for staff, students and the public throughout the year.
