Explore the rapidly developing digital media landscape on our MA Digital Media Practices course. Develop and refine your skills in critical and independent thinking, media theory and literacy, and creative methodologies. Build a strong portfolio of work that highlights the best of critical theory, and practice approaches from a wide range of digital media.

The MA Digital Media Practices course focuses on a distinctive blend of creative, practice-led projects, critical media studies and work across disciplines such as:

  • media arts
  • visual culture
  • algorithmic culture
  • social media platforms
  • media infrastructures

You'll learn to navigate global contemporary issues in media including gender, race, ecology and politics. You'll achieve this by analysing media texts and technologies, users, audiences, platforms and digital cultures.

Using digital media technologies, platforms and tools, you'll create and lead independent media projects. You'll conduct research which is relevant to media, arts, culture and technology, and apply critical thinking, creative techniques and appropriate research methods.

We update our selection of media practices and industries every year, to ensure the course remains relevant over time. You'll have the opportunity to focus on one study area in more detail, with example study areas including filmmaking, sound, journalism, game cultures and media ecologies.

This course will help you to become a media professional who uses and promotes inclusive, ethical and sustainable practices. By the end of this course, you'll have a professional skillset which is highly valued in the global creative and cultural industries and can be applied in multiple professional pathways.

As a digital media practices student, you can enjoy:
