This module will introduce you to the change-makers in sustainability, luxury and ethical artisanship. You will learn how to identify and debate the current and emerging sustainable and ethical factors that have the potential for driving positive and constructive change for the future. You will produce experimental work informed by these change-makers, how to create original designs and idea’s and create your own unique identity, values, vision to make positive and constructive change for the future.

You will gain knowledge and insight about the global, cultural, historical and ethical contexts of these change-makers, their success, failures, and how they have changed the directions and developments in the field of textiles.

On this module you will:

• Explore, analyse, discuss and interpret the Change-Makers in Textiles - Pioneers, Influencers, Disruptors, Innovators, Visionaries, Artists, Leaders - historical and contemporary and emerging trailblazers that have driven positive and constructive change for the future.
• Investigate and debate the issues and trends around luxury, sustainability, artisanship and the creative solutions in textile practice.
• Practice drawing, developing sketchbooks, moodboards, fabrications and swatches.
• Experience Primary and secondary academic research and market intelligence gathering.
• Participate in Print & Dyeing, Knit & Stitch, Weave & Felting technical workshops, watching demonstrations, practicing techniques and collating technical specification files.
• Interact with Digital Skills workshops to play with and explore websites, new media, digital design tools and also create a digital personal profiles and how to search for employment opportunities.
• Undertake Academic Skills workshops, continued from semester one, this time understanding market intelligence research, critical thinking and reflective writing.
