Work in dermatology focused on immune processes in skin in inflammatory diseases (Atopic eczema, psoriasis & drug allergy). Research used cutaneous immune/allergic responses to chemical contact sensitisers to define quantitative, dose-response relationships in human immune system. This led to the most precise methods for quantifying the quality of the immune response, showing alterations and impairments in various diseases and quantifying the anti-inflammatory potency of topical drug agents.
Since retirement (2008) research has focused on Cancer immunology through collaboration with Prof Christian Ottensmeier and Prof Pandurangan Vijayanand (La Jolla Immunology Institute).
