Current research
Ingi's research interests have been brought together under several major research projects along with her doctoral research. Her research has been funded by the ESRC, European Commission, University of Southampton and most recently by the Fulbright Commission and the EU. For her research projects, Ingi collaborated with world leading experts, such as Professor Helen Stalford (University of Liverpool) and Professor Jacqueline Bhabha (Harvard University) to name just a few. Dr Iusmen is currently Co-I on an interdisciplinary, impact-driven collaborative (Liverpool University, UCL, Southampton University) research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as part of UK Research and Innovation's rapid response to Covid-19. The project has a total project value of approximately £354,000 and is titled "Lives on Hold, Our Stories Told (LOHST): Exploring The Legal and Social Impacts of Covid-19 on Young Unaccompanied Asylum-Seekers in England" (2020-22). Thanks to ESRC funding, this interdisciplinary research will be able to provide the first detailed study of the effects of the legal and welfare effects of Covid-19 on unaccompanied asylum seekers aged 16 – 25. The interdisciplinary project team includes Professor Helen Stalford (PI, Liverpool, LAW) Dr Elaine Chase(Co-I, UCL, EDUCATION) Dr Jana Kreppner (Co-I, Southampton, PSYCHOLOGY) and Dr Ingi Iusmen(Co-I, Southampton, POLITICS). The project team works with a group of unaccompanied young asylum seekers as co-researchers, accessed through and supported by the Albanian-support charity, Shpresa Programme. The rapid response, multi-informant study will collect data from legal practitioners, social workers, services and refugee charities/NGOs and young unaccompanied asylum seekers themselves, and will run until October 2022. My most recent project used participatory methodology to make the asylum process more trauma-sensitive for vulnerable asylum-seekers. This project produced a policy report (with Jana Kreppner and India Cook) titled "Trauma-Informing the Asylum Process. Guidelines and Recommendations Co-Developed with Young People Seeking Asylum"

Biography
Ingi is an Associate Professor in Governance and Policy at the University of Southampton (PAIR). Ingi's research tackles key questions about European public policy, protection of children’s rights, human rights and minority protection, unaccompanied migrant children, child refugees and migration more generally. Ingi specialises in three areas: (1) public policy, (2) human rights protection, including minority protection and (3) children’s rights and refugee studies. My most recent project used participatory methodology and produced a policy report (with Jana Kreppner and India Cook) titled "Trauma-Informing the Asylum Process. Guidelines and Recommendations Co-Developed with Young People Seeking Asylum"
