Research interests

  • Before arriving at the University Rachel had experience of working in a controlled environment aquarium with Antarctic Limpets at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge measuring raised metabolism following feeding and the associated shell growth.

  • A year later at University of Utrecht Rachel gained experience working with radioactive steroids during in vitro studies of Pituitary enzyme activity of Catfish.

About

As Senior Technician Rachel has overall responsibility for the deployment of staff for the provision of technical services supporting Education, Research and Facilities. This includes the continuing professional development of the team through the development of a technical team strategy.

Alongside Rachel's responsibilities running the SoBS Technical team Rachel is also actively involved in two University Charters and their Working groups, the institutional Athena Swan and the Technician Commitment. Rachel is also a member of the AWERB and its working groups in her capacity as NACWO and is a member of the SoBS senior leadership team.

As a member of the SoBS senior leadership tema Rachel has input in the centre’s organisation, budgets, equipment & wellbeing through Full School Board, Research Operations Group and the Health & Safety Forum. Rachel is also Supervisor for the Plant Growth Facilities and the Invertebrate Facility - for which she also holds the B85 DEFRA Plant Health Licence.
