Current research
Ainhoa’s research interests lie primarily in the legal areas of maritime law, the law of the sea, international human rights law and more recently international refugee law, with increasing emphasis on the interaction between the law of the sea and maritime law and broad considerations of humanity. The intersection of these legal arenas was at the core of her PhD research, where she focused on treaty interpretation and the integration of human rights law and refugee law considerations in the reading of maritime legal instruments relevant to search and rescue at sea.
During her research, Ainhoa also developed particular interest in the notion of vulnerability and the legal implications of vulnerability reasoning in treaty interpretation.
