About
Samantha is a Health Psychologist with over 20 years of experience in the development and validation of patient reported outcome assessments, with a focus on quality of life (QoL) measures in oncology. Her PhD on the experience of positivity in illness was awarded from the University of Plymouth in 2002 and formed part of a programme of MRC-funded work looking at novel approaches to QoL assessment. She returned to the University of Southampton in 2012, having completed her undergraduate degree almost two decades earlier, where she has been funded by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Group to lead and coordinate QoL questionnaire development projects across several cancer patient groups with a focus on young people with cancer and gastrointestinal cancers. She has also worked within the Macmillan Survivorship Research Team supporting the analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data from the longitudinal cohort study of people with colorectal cancer. Samantha teaches the psychosocial content of several undergraduate courses within the School of Health Sciences. She is the Wellbeing Champion for the school.
