I hold a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (Portuguese and French with teaching components) from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. After graduating, I taught Portuguese and French language and culture in secondary schools and adult education programmes in Portugal. Additionally, I contributed to teacher training initiatives in Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau through educational cooperation projects between Portugal and these countries.
I completed a Master’s degree in Portuguese Teaching as a Second and Foreign Language at UNL, Lisbon, Portugal. Since September 1999, I have been teaching languages and cultures in various contexts, and I have been working in the Higher Education sector in the UK since January 2010. I served as the Language Coordinator in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Birmingham for over five years before joining the Department of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics at the University of Southampton as a Teaching Fellow of Portuguese in 2016.
Currently, I convene and teach Portuguese language modules at both Intermediate (Year 2) and Advanced (Year 4) levels. I also contribute to additional modules and courses by moderating Portuguese language assessments at Beginners level (Year 1) and supervising and marking Year Abroad dissertations (LANG2010 for Year 2 and LANG3005 for Year 3), as well as MA ELT/TESOL dissertations.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I am the Programme Lead for the BA Language, Culture, and Communication and serve as the Year Abroad Country Coordinator for Portuguese-speaking countries.
