Catherine Kenny is a part-time Postgraduate Researcher based in Southampton Law School at the University of Southampton. Her PhD is entitled: Criminal justice practitioners, rehabilitation and the IPP sentence.
Catherine’s current research focuses on the barriers to rehabilitation and desistance facing former IPP prisoners and the roles of criminal justice agencies in their rehabilitation. This research will aim to gain a better understanding of the experiences of criminal justice practitioners of the IPP sentence through their work.

Catherine has worked for over twenty years in the voluntary sector both in the UK and Ireland in a variety of policy, research and casework roles. For the last seven years, Catherine has worked with the Irish Council for Prisoners Overseas (a small charity with offices in London and Ireland).
Prior to commencing her PhD, Catherine completed an MA in Comparative Criminology and Criminal Justice and also holds an LLM in International Human Rights Law.
