Dr John Loja Torres is a Research Fellow at the School of Human Development and Health and the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre, University of Southampton. He holds a BSc in both Economics and Sociology, MSc degrees in Demography, and was awarded his PhD in Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton in 2024, where he contributed as a Teaching Assistant, supporting the education of future population health specialists.
John’s academic interests focus on health inequalities affecting marginalised and ethnic minoritised populations. His research explores how social factors shape disparities in life expectancy, causes of death, and general health inequities.
John is deeply committed to student support and contributes to the field by reviewing for demography and population health journals.
