Colin is a postgraduate research student based in Southampton Business School at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on supply chain risk, specifically on how organisations can improve how they manage contracts with third party supplier organisations. Colin is undertaking his study on a part-time basis.

Current research

Thesis Title: Improving supply chain performance through enhanced contract management.
Supervisors: Dr Simonov Kusi-Sarpong and Dr Meko So.
Most organisations have at least some reliance on third parties for the delivery of goods and/or services. For some organisations this reliance is significant, for example in the public sector. In recent years there have been a number of high-profile contract and supplier failings which have demonstrated the risks of for contract managers. The thesis will explore the skills that a required to manage contracts well. Some initial data collection and analysis (quantitative) have been undertaken as part of Colin’s MRes. The focus of the thesis will be on gathering qualitative data through interviews and Case Studies.
Teaching
Colin has a higher education teaching qualification (PGCHE) and experience of teaching and supervising students from L4 to L7. He has taught students in procurement/operations management, corporate finance and marketing.
Biography
Colin enjoyed a wide-ranging career in financial services, working in credit, marketing, product management, sales, treasury, international trade and procurement. He held senior positions in most of these different areas.
Colin is now a freelance academic. He undertakes assignments for the University of Southampton. He is also Chief Assessor (with responsibility for all qualifications) for the Association of Corporate Treasurers, the Asset and Liability Management Association and the Association of Business Executives. He is also a senior academic for the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). He also writes assessment questions and learning materials for the London Institute of Banking & Finance.
He is a Chartered Educational Assessor and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In recognition of his contributions to various professions he also has Fellowships from CIM, CIPS, the Institute of Leadership & Management and the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
He studied for his MBA at the University of Exeter and for his MRes at the University of Leicester.
Colin is also a volunteer, trustee and treasurer for Sight Action, a charity supporting vision impaired people.
