About
Jo is a Professor of Economics and is Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton. She is an applied micro labour economist with a particular interest in the UK labour market. Jo is a member of the Home Office’s Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) and a Trustee of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF).

Current research
Jo is an applied micro labour economist. Her main areas of research interest are labour economics and applied microeconometrics, focusing on the UK labour market on issues such as the gender wage gap, in-work poverty and low wages (including the minimum wage and the Living Wage). Jo's research has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and the Low Pay Commission (LPC).

Biography
Jo joined the University of Southampton in January 2022 as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Professor of Economics.
Prior to joining the University of Southampton, Jo was Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics & Related Studies, University of York and Head of Department (2015- 2021).
