Dr. Haimeng Ren is a Teaching Fellow in Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics at the University of Southampton. She earned her PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Southampton in 2022, with research focusing on the translation of culture-specific allusions between Chinese and English. Applying empirical methods like eye-tracking, her work delves into the cognitive processes of student translators, examining the challenges of translating allusions from L1 to L2 and vice versa. Her findings have been published in leading academic journals such as Translation, Cognition & Behavior and Babel.

Dr. Ren serves as the Programme Lead for the MA in Translation and Professional Communication Skills at the University of Southampton. Her research interests extend beyond traditional translation studies, focusing on translation technology and its integration into translation pedagogy. She is particularly involved in the comparative analysis of AI-generated and human translations, aiming to understand the reception and effectiveness of AI in translation, especially in culturally complex contexts. Her work also explores how technology can be harnessed to enhance translator training while preserving the essential human elements of cultural sensitivity and critical thinking.
