Magnetic field borne of Earth's iron core is instrumental to phenomena of space weather and formation of auroras. Using data from satellites orbiting our Earth, Nawapat study a specific type of auroras - transpolar arcs - and magnetic/plasma signatures associated with them. Interpretation of this data unveils new dynamics that have never previously been observed, with potential implications on structure of the Earth's magnetosphere.
Nawapat also study magnetic domains of planets and moons in the outer Solar System. His current focus is on Ganymede - the only moon with its own permanent magnetic field - and how the field can be used to determine structure of the moon's subsurface ocean. His work here consists primarily of analytical modelling, with prediction intended for the upcoming Jupiter Icy Moon Explorer (JUICE) mission.
