Lucy joined Southampton as a Lecturer in Criminology in 2023, and teaches on undergraduate programmes across violence, gender, victimisation, and crime. She is a feminist public scholar with a commitment to radical and engaged pedagogic practices.
Her research explores violence, gender, sex, and sexuality in different forms, and she has worked with a variety of marginalised and stigmatised groups. Her research on VAWG has been funded by the ESRC, the Home Office, and the West Midlands Police, as well as third sector organisations such as New Horizon and AVA. After completing her PhD, Lucy worked for the BBC World Service Trust (now BBC Media Action) which has given her a life-long interest in international development and how it intersects with gender and climate (in)justice, as well as insights into how media messaging impacts on behaviour. A published writer of romance herself (under a pen name!), Lucy is also interested in the changing landscape of sexually explicit media, particularly how women interact with pornography and erotica on both a personal and societal level.
Lucy has a strong commitment to working with scholars from across disciplinary boundaries (#IAF) and to moving research findings into the public arena. This influences her teaching, which is cross-cutting, holistic, and applied to the challenges and opportunities of everyday life.
