About
My PhD research was established in 2023. While the transition to increasing proportions of Connected and/or Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) within highway vehicle mixes has received much attention from the vehicle technology requirements and traveller behaviour aspects, but the potential consequences for highway infrastructure is comparatively unknown. This project will therefore seek to explore and quantify the whole life cycle carbon footprint impacts of the necessary infrastructure changes to enable increasing levels of CAVs within existing highway systems, and contrast these with equivalent current estimates of human driven vehicle infrastructure requirements.
