Emily is a second year PhD student (2023-2027) focusing on the compatibility of climate change and biodiversity targets under future land use change. Her research focuses primarily on the implementation of national targets at the local government level in England. Previously Emily was a Senior Policy Advisor for Biodiversity Net Gain at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (2021-2023), and an Environmental Consultant at Mott MacDonald (2017-2021).
PhD research
Emily currently demonstrates on Geography and Environmental Science modules for undergraduates and masters students covering: Geographical Information Systems (GIS), programming in R, and Global Sustainability Challenges.
Emily is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2024-)
Emily has 6 years of industry experience in environmental consultancy and policy working in the private and public sector. Emily returned to the University of Southampton to start her PhD in Geography and Environmental Science in 2023, after completing an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation here in 2016-2017.
