About the Algal biomass facilities
We use our algal biomass facilities to explore cultivation systems, marine and freshwater biochemical methane production and biorefineries. Our facilities are located in both Southampton and Spain.
We use our algal biomass facilities to explore cultivation systems, marine and freshwater biochemical methane production and biorefineries. Our facilities are located in both Southampton and Spain.
At our Southampton laboratory we have a 320 litre photobioreactor. We also have the facilities to make smaller batches of different algal strains. Work on the kinetics of algal growth is carried out using our instrumented lab-scale photobioreactors.
At our experimental site in Spain we work with our partners at the University of Almeria.
We have:
Our research focuses on the engineering design of cultivation systems, the use of marine and freshwater micro-algal biomass for biochemical methane production and as the basis for biorefineries. Recent work includes demonstrating algal biofuels production.
Our environmental engineers work with industry and government to find innovative solutions to managing waste without harming the environment.
