About the Research vessel

Used by staff and students for a range of fieldwork and research, R.V. Callista, is a 19.75m catamaran designed and equipped for a range of coastal and shelf research.

It's based at National Oceanography Centre (NOCS) and is available to staff and students in the School of Ocean and Earth Science.

The purpose-built boat is designed to carry out a variety of work including:

  • deployment of scientific equipment
  • collection of biological, chemical and sediment samples
  • surveying
  • diving operations
  • geophysics
  • educational visits by external groups including schools, colleges and universities
