Research project

Genome resources for a new agronomic and evolutionary model

Project overview

Crop improvement for a future climate relies on understanding the basis of adaptive traits, and a focus on underutilised stress-tolerant crops has been highlighted. Lablab is an exciting potential model legume both from agronomic and evolutionary points of view. Lablab was domesticated twice therefore serves as an exciting model to study parallel evolution, especially of agronomic traits, for example seed size increase and change in plant architecture. In addition, the two gene pools differ in the number of seeds per pod, an important breeding target in legumes.
