About the project

We’re looking for a passionate PhD student to join our team and push the boundaries of what’s possible with Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD).

Shape the future of photonics with us!

Are you fascinated by the potential of light and lasers? Novel crystalline photonic devices are opening up incredible possibilities for efficient lasers and light manipulation.

Why this matters

PLD is a groundbreaking technique that uses light to create new materials and waveguide devices. By advancing our understanding and development of scalable crystal structures, you’ll be at the forefront of creating the next generation of laser systems and advanced photonics applications

What you’ll do
  • innovate: design, grow, and characterize advanced materials using PLD
  • experiment: gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge techniques, lasers, and honing your practical skills
  • collaborate: work with a dynamic team and engage in interdisciplinary research
  • explore: support modelling studies to deepen our understanding of PLD dynamics and device applications.
What we’re looking for

We’re seeking an enthusiastic and capable student who is eager to dive into experimental work and learn new practical skills. You’ll have a solid grounding in physical sciences with an enthusiasm to understand and solve challenging scenarios. Your role will involve developing new functional advanced materials for new-device and innovative-lasers applications.

Why join us?
  • cutting-edge facilities: access to top-tier resources and cleanroom facilities
  • interdisciplinary research: collaborate with experts within the university and beyond
  • global collaboration: work with the UK national laser facility and other external partners

If you’re excited about the potential of photonics and ready to take on this challenge, we want to hear from you!
