About the project

The aim of this project is to provide a solution for intra data centre communications which is sustainable, and uses minimal power.

This is clearly going to be an optical solution, which is considerably less energy hungry than electronic counterparts.

With the advent of machine learning and AI, more and more technologies are reliant on data centres, that already absorbs few % of the world generated power and it is forecasted to exceed 20% over the next decade.

Polymer fibres and fibre bundles will be investigated, for operation in all available spectral regions, ranging from the visible to the THz.

These fibres will also find side markets in healthcare (endoscopy), industry (boroscopy), and pharmaceutical (tablets inspection).
