Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Provide evidence that you have undertaken a professional practice development activity.
- Critically evaluate your experience of self directed study and the appropriateness of your original professional practice development plan (PPDP).
- Using a structured reflective process, examine how your experience supports your professional practice development and your transition to becoming a registered nurse.
- Work independently and autonomously to create an agreed professional practice development plan (PPDP) that will enable you to achieve your identified learning needs.
- Identify and negotiate a specific topic for independent study, and articulate learning needs that will support your future nursing practice.
Syllabus
This is an opportunity for students to undertake a period of negotiated self-directed learning. The aim is to embellish their knowledge, skills and capabilities in preparation for their final year and transition into professional practice.
Taught sessions will include exploration of learning opportunities, project planning, career development, critical reflection, risk assessment and documentation, and guidance on professional CVs.

General Resources
Developing Professional Practice. You will be enrolled on a dedicated Blackboard site for this module. The learning resources include templates for learning contracts, risk assessments and information about insurance. These are designed to support you to progress your ideas forward into a successful professional development experience. This site links to the module reading list on Talis.
Nursing careers advice. All SOHS students are automatically enrolled on the "Careers Advice for Health Sciences" Blackboard site. This contains all the resources regarding career action planning, CV and portfolio development. Materials have been developed in conjunction with our Careers, Employability and Enterprise Service, University of Southampton. This BB site inks to the main UoS Careers Hub which is the central platform.

Assessment
Assessment strategy
Two components:
1. A project plan (1000 words) - 40% weighting
2. A written project report (2000 words) - 60% weighting
In order to pass this module, you must achieve a weighted average mark of 40% overall AND you must achieve 40% in the final written project report.
