Project overview
In this MSc dissertation project I looked at the ways in which the emigration of working-age adult children has impacted their parents who stayed in the origin villages. It draws on a small number of in-depth interviews with older people in a rural area of SouthEast Albania, whose children and grandchildren had moved internally or abroad, leaving these older parents on their own. The study sought to understand these questions of living with migration, and often loneliness, in older age in Albania from the perspective of older people, and sought to make recommendations for policy makers to improve the situation.
