- The 1790s
- The early United States
- Rhetoric
Current research
I have recently finished a book on the rhetoric of dissenting culture in the eighteenth century, centred on the minister and scientist Joseph Priestley. As well as continuing lines of inquiry from that project (on the relation between experiment and religious faith, on graphic satire especially in the 1790s, and others) I am also interested in the culture of the early republic in America.
