My pedagogical interests include critical pedagogy and academic literacies. I am particularly interested in inclusive and curriculum-integrated models of academic literacy instruction which draw on the combined expertise of both discipline lecturers and literacy experts.
I am a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Academic Centre for International Students (ACIS), part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. I have been supporting international students throughout the university, particularly at WSA and in English, for over 10 years, as well as coordinating the Pre-sessional course in the summer months. I also teach on the Intercultural Communication in a Global World module and, until recently, was module convenor for Academic English on the International Foundation Year Programme. I hold an MA in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching and a BA in English Literature and previously trained and worked as a journalist.
I am particularly interested in collaborating with departments across the university to provide a holistic approach to meeting the needs of our international students. I work with both students and staff to develop better understanding and inclusivity through pedagogical insight, intercultural awareness and language development.
