Nicola pratt is a Senior Marine Biology Technician within the School of Ocean and Earth Science (SOES), University of Southampton, based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton.
She provides specialist technical support for research within the Marine Biogeochemistry and Marine Biology and Ecology Research Groups, predominantly in the areas of marine microbiology, phytoplankton physiology and molecular biology, as well performing NGS library prep and sequencing services for the Environmental Sequencing Facility.
Nicola is also involved in teaching activities, providing technical support for modules SOES3018 and SOES3031, as well as general research laboratory supervision of BSc, MSc and MRes project students and training of PhD students and Post Graduate Researchers.
She line manages a small team of laboratory technicians and is a member of the SOES Technical Management group. She is also actively involved in wider University initiatives, including the Technician Commitment and championing sustainability and the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) within SOES.
