About
Ben Giordano is a doctoral candidate in History, based in the Department of History and affiliated with the Web Science Institute at the University of Southampton.
After graduating from the St Mary Magdalene Academy on Liverpool Road in North London, I went on to study History at UCL, spent a year studying at the philosophy faculty at Charles University in Prague, before starting my PhD at the University of Southampton. My PhD focuses on how working-class individuals experienced Britain’s twentieth-century dance halls through sensuality – and how these experiences intersect with contemporaneous literature on London’s urban nightlife, and current ‘digital’ recollections across social media. It therefore hopes to provide new insights into the dynamic relationship between printed texts, ‘digital’ memory, and lived (bodily) experience.
I also love to travel, eat fried Czech cheese, and grow plants in my apartment.
