Andy is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Research in Inclusion. He is currently researching how digital accessibility is taught and learned and working with the National Centre for Research Methods on their project looking at social research in the context of Covid-19.

Current research
Andy is a member of the research team on the study, Teaching Accessibility in the Digital Skill Set (2019-2023) funded by UK Research and Innovation and led by Dr Sarah Lewthwaite. The study seeks to build understanding of pedagogies of digital accessibility in computer science education and the workplace, and provide empirical research and evidence-based resources for educators in academia and industry to develop their teaching and contribute to capacity-building in the digital workforce.
Andy is also working with the National Centre for Research Methods on their research project, Changing Research Practice (2020-2022) funded by the ESRC and led by Prof Melanie Nind. The project is looking at adaptations in social research methods in the context of Covid-19, using rapid evidence review and a series of series of knowledge exchange workshops to facilitate debate, synthesise evidence and share resources.

Biography
Andy is experienced in conducting inclusive and participatory research with people with learning disabilities. He draws on over ten years’ experience of supporting and teaching in learning disability communities, including four years as a Learning Manager with a charity organisation. Andy is currently engaged in research looking at the teaching and learning of digital accessibility in higher education and the workplace. He has previously conducted research in the educational use of digital media and technology through his work with iRes at Falmouth University and the Visual Learning Lab at the University of Nottingham. Andy completed his PhD in Education at the University of Nottingham. His thesis examined the role of social and participatory media in doctoral education.
