Dr Felix Pedrotti

Over the last 5 years Felix was an essential team member on the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project and the Submerged Neolithic of the Western Isles Project, where he developed original techniques surveying both shallow and deep-sea environments as well as combining photogrammetric surveys with geophysical datasets. These surveys have also been integrated into numerous Virtual Reality experiences with the aim of introducing cutting-edge technologies into archaeological research and address ocean literacy (here one VR example: https://youtu.be/fMlR71Sv3Ec). On multiple occasions Felix has given lectures and workshops on underwater surveying techniques as well as terrestrial and small-scale photogrammetry at the University of Southampton and other institutions. He is both a fully qualified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor with the capabilities to teach and award recreational diving certificates and an HSE Surface Supplied diver with considerable experience teaching scientific diving at the University of Southampton and the Autonomous National University of Mexico as well as for the Swedish Military. This was enabled by his engagement in the HMS Invincible excavation and other projects in UK, Italy and Bulgaria. In addition to my digital and diving expertise, he have extensive experience translating classical documents, gained throughout his BA and MA degrees. Felix has also developed a vital understanding of GIS and riverine processes, which was enabled by his knowledge of the integration of deposit models and geophysical datasets, such as LiDAR and bathymetry, into wider archaeological contexts. Utilising this expertise he has led various lectures and seminars at the University of Southampton and other organisations and presented at numerous conferences.
