About
In 2020, Paige graduated with First-Class Honours in Biochemistry from the University of Kent and was awarded with the Faculty of Sciences Rotary Prize. During her undergraduate studies, Paige was drawn to the complexity surrounding protein functionality and more so, the highly regulated molecular pathways regulating their expression.
Currently in the third year of her PhD as part of the SoCoBio DTP, Paige is investigating the regulation of the cytidine deaminase APOBEC3A. This enzyme plays an important role within viral restriction as part of the human innate immune response, however APOBEC3A is also responsible for a "friendly fire" in the drive of oncogenic mutations. The understanding of the regulatory mechanism behind APOBEC3A expression is important for the identification of novel cancer therapeutic targets.
Paige is supervised by Dr Tim Fenton (University of Southampton) and Professor Michelle West (University of Sussex) and her collaborators/projects projects include AstraZeneca, The Babraham Institution, BIOTEC and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand).
You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.
Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.
You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.
