The facility provides histological microscopes for colourimetric imaging. We also have additional equipment for the sectioning, preservation and processing of specimens.

Leica TP1020 Tissue Processor

The Leica TP1020 is an automatic tissue processor. It is used for the fixation, dehydration and infiltration of histological tissue samples with fixatives, alcohol, solvents and paraffin wax. The processor is made up of 12 reagent stations that are used to hold various concentrations of solvents, HistoClear and paraffin wax. Stations 11 and 12 are heated, temperature-controlled wax baths that can be filled with either wax pellets or molten paraffin wax.

Leica EG1150 H Paraffin Embedding Station

The Leica EG1150 H is a modern paraffin embedding station with microprocessor control system. It is designed for embedding histological tissue specimens in molten paraffin for use in pathology laboratories and only for the following tasks: 

  • melt solid paraffin for sample embedding and maintain the molten paraffin at the required temperature. 
  • pour paraffin into embedding moulds where the specimens are placed. 
  • heat and maintain the temperatures of embedding cassettes with specimens and moulds as well as the required forceps.
  • paraffin reservoir – approx. 3L
  • cassette tray – approx. 100 cassettes
  • embedding mould tray – approx. 50 embedding moulds
