About the programme
The Centre will recruit a minimum of 60 students spread across 5 cohorts to undertake our bespoke doctoral training programme. We welcome applications from candidates considering both full-time and part-time modes of study and encourage a diversity of applicants including post first-degree entrants, experienced defence sector employees, those transitioning to civilian roles, returners to study and those with non-traditional academic backgrounds.
The Centre is organised into the themes of digital, physical and biological systems. We offer research projects spanning engineering and physical sciences, as well as related areas in environmental and life sciences, social sciences and medicine. This will allow us to tackle the full breadth of research within the defence and security sector.
The programme is 4 years for full-time students and up to 8 years for part-time students. All students will undertake a combination of a foundational taught component with an extended research phase.
Funding
For candidates looking to complete a PhD or EngD full-time we offer an enhanced tax-free stipend of £23,622, along with a substantial budget for research, travel, and centre activities.
