Institute of Maritime Law (IML)

Services

The IML has a reputation for delivering excellent training: to private companies, individuals working in maritime law and to our Law students.

Consultancy

The academic standing of the IML means consultancy is a natural extension of the research work undertaken by us, including the drafting of International, European and National legislation, as well as soft law instruments.

Consultancy services can be provided both by an individual member or, where necessary, by a team of members. Our combined expertise ensures all aspects of your enquiry can be delivered by the IML team.

Any requests for consultancy can be directed to the Institute administration team or the most appropriate Member.

Bespoke courses

We are frequently approached to design and deliver bespoke courses for maritime companies and administrations around the world.

The knowledge of our members and their teaching expertise ensure clients receive a tailor-made service of the highest standard. These courses allow companies to discuss their personal requirements for course content, as well as length and specificity. It is also an opportunity to meet some of the leading academics in their fields, whose research has been published worldwide, in leading maritime journals and publications.

If you would like to discuss a tailor-made course for your company, please email the IML, for the attention of Clare Old.

CPD

Sign up to our mailing list to hear about new courses as they are announced. Email the Institute to request for your details to be added to the list.

Please note the Institute of Maritime Law reserves the right to cancel or postpone courses should a minimum number of delegates not sign up.

All of our courses are regulated in England by the Office for Students (OfS).

Wednesday Practitioner Seminar Series

The Wednesday Seminar Series has convened for over twenty years. It is a seminar programme with expert speakers who come and share their experience with our students. The general theme is practical knowledge helpful to lawyers, how the law operates in real life and an insight into the various professions involved in the maritime, commercial and insurance sectors. The seminars are aimed at our maritime and commercial law students. However, we are happy to welcome a wider audience – if you are interested, please attend the seminar of interest.

Unless otherwise specified, the seminars take place on campus on Wednesdays from 14:00 until 15:00 (in Building 2/1039) or online during term-time. There is always an opportunity for questions.

For more information please follow us on Twitter @imlsouthampton

For any specific questions, please email Dr Feng Wang (the coordinator of the Wednesday Seminar Series).

**Please note the IML does not administer the Academic courses, for details of taught course and postgraduate programmes, please see the Southampton Law School website.
