Project overview
This project will scope whether vessel tracking AIS datasets in combination with satellite remote sensing and passive acoustic data can assess the impact of vessel mobility on underwater cultural heritage (UCH). It will establish new methodologies as a pilot project prior to applying for a larger grant. The pilot project will be completed in the Solent region, which is an ideal test site as it has: a) dense marine traffic including a range of vessels and activities, b) a rich UCH record including protected wrecks, and c) data availability, including AIS, extensive satellite remote sensing (e.g. Sentinels 1 and 2, Landsat), high-resolution seafloor mapping, as well as new passive acoustic data collected by seabed hydrophones.
