About the History archive collections
Hartley Library is home to historically important archives and manuscripts. Explore them as part of group projects and individual research work under the guidance of leading historians in the field.
- Wellington papers: this unique collection of around 100,000 items covers the political, military, official and diplomatic papers of the first Duke of Wellington
- Palmerston papers: the papers of the third Viscount Palmerston total around 40,000 items and span his ministerial career until his death as Prime Minister in 1865
- Mountbatten papers: this special collection contains a wealth of papers detailing the foundation of the states of India and Pakistan
- Parkes archives: home to Jewish archives covering Anglo-Jewish history in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries
