Module overview
This module allows you to carry out a piece of independent research, following on from the development of a protocol in the Critical Inquiry - Research Protocol module. Further to carrying out research, you will also gain experience in other aspects of research, such as preparing a manuscript for publication in a relevant journal of your choice and a conference presentation.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Analyse, present and interpret data analysed critically and appropriately, to provide answers to the research question/aim
- Demonstrate the ability to disseminate your work
- Rationalise the selection of the specific problem or issue to be studied by systematic search and critical appraisal of relevant literature
- Justify the conclusions and implications for your profession with well-reasoned arguments
- Examine a research question/aim and set of objectives using a feasible and appropriate investigation
- Conduct a research study that employs a research design, sampling and recruitment strategy and data collection approach appropriate to the research aim/question
- Demonstrate adherence to relevant ethical and governance requirements in carrying out research
Syllabus
The module is practically-focused, so no formal teaching arrangements are in place. However, ad-hoc sessions may be provided depending on circumstances; for example, extra support may be provided for completing ethics and governance documents, or for using specialist statistical or qualitative software.

This module involves an independent piece of research. Learning in relation to subject matter and research methods (practical and theoretical) will be project-specific. You will have a designated supervisor or supervisory team, who will have suitable academic and professional expertise.
