Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Be able to explain key sociological approaches to understanding the construction of gender
- Develop a critical appreciation of how gender shapes and constrains social actions and interactions in private and public spaces, and across the world
- Knowledge and understanding of how gender is shaped by interaction with race, class, culture and ethnicity
Syllabus
The module will examine theoretical perspectives on gender. These themes will be developed through consideration of a number of theoretical intersections with race, class and sexuality, and in topics, such as:
