I am a Professor of Economics, and an applied labour economist with interests in the economics of international migration and refugees. In 2020, I was awarded an OBE for services to Economic Policy. I was a member of the UK Migration Advisory Committee (2012-2021). I am a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, an elected member of the Council of the Royal Economic Society (2020-25), and a council member of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). I am also a research fellow at IZA, CReAM and ERF. I am a member of the Economic Research Forum Board of Trustees, and the Migration Observatory Expert Advisory Board at Oxford University. I have acted as an advisor to several international organisations, including the EC, the World Bank, UNDP, the African Development Bank and the OECD.
