Pure Mathematics
We work with researchers around the world to contribute to research in algebra, analysis, geometry and topology.
We work with researchers around the world to contribute to research in algebra, analysis, geometry and topology.
We're a team of 30 academics and postgraduate students, and our global network includes groups in the UK, the EU, North America and East Asia.
We are internationally recognised as research leaders in several fields, including geometric group theory, non-commutative geometry and analysis, algebraic topology and applied topology.
The Centre for Geometry, Topology, and Applications has created a focal point for a large part of this activity.
Our research can be broadly divided into several categories:
We welcome applications for PhD study in one of our areas of expertise. Please have a look at our research areas and projects, and do not hesitate to contact our staff for more information.

We welcome applications for PhD study in all our areas of expertise. If you're interested in studying with us, please either contact a potential supervisor or the group's Postgraduate Recruitment Coordinator, Ian Leary.
Find out about our postgraduate research opportunities on our mathematical sciences topic page.
My research interests are algebraic geometry, algebraic K-theory, algebraic number theory and homological algebra.
My research is in homotopy theory, a branch of algebraic topology that studies continuous deformations. I am interested in problems fundamental to the area and applications of homotopy theory to other areas of mathematics such as Lie groups, gauge groups, manifolds and toric topology.
I use pure mathematical tools from graph theory and topology in interdisciplinary research motivated by real-world applications.
