Biography
Roger Briggs qualified in medicine at King’s College Hospital, London in 1972. He went through various NHS posts in London, Brighton and Leicester and was then a Welcome Research Scholar at the Institutes of Psychiatry and Neurology, London. Roger joined the University of Southampton in 1980 as Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine, becoming Professor in 1987. From 2000 to 2003 he was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Biological Sciences. From 2005 until retirement in 2007 he was Head of the School of Health Professions and Rehabilitation Sciences. Throughout his career he encouraged the development of interprofessional education. His personal teaching, research and clinical interests were centred on dementia and frailty in older people.
