Current research
My current research interests lie within the field of second language acquisition and learner autonomy. Areas of interest are the development of learner strategies and their impact on the language learning process; the role and impact of their year abroad in language learning progression; the effectiveness of the Southampton model where learners are allocated to stage according to language ability rather than year of study; the effectiveness of feedback and how to construct feedback that allows students to address areas for improvement

Biography
Marta Crosby is a Principal Teaching Fellow in Spanish at the University of Southampton
She studied Filología Inglesa at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela, Spain, where she also completed her qualification in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. She then moved to the UK to work as a Language Assistant at the University of Wolverhampton and afterwards, as an Adult Education Tutor at Peter Symonds College in Winchester, before returning to the University of Wolverhampton as a Visiting Lecturer. In 1998, she took up a post as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Southampton, where she later became a Teaching Fellow in Spanish.
She holds and MA in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching from the University of Southampton. She is currently the Chair for the Year in Employment (YiE), a scheme that encourages students at Southampton to take up the option of doing a work placement and to acquire valuable skills and work experience as part of their degree
