I am a Senior Research Fellow at the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) at the University of Southampton.
In 2020 I worked on NCRM's Training Needs Assessment (TNA), and am currently working on impact reporting, assessment and strategy for NCRM.
I am also the researcher for the ESRC funded 'Study of survey data collection during the pandemic'.

Biography
I completed an MA in gender studies at the University of Sussex (Distinction, 1995). I then moved to the Department of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Southampton, and took up an ESRC funded studentship to study for a PhD entitled ‘Nationalism and gender: a study of war-related violence against women’ (2000). This explored the relationship between nationalism, gender and sexual violence against women during the recent wars in Former Yugoslavia.
A key publication arising from my PhD 'From atrocity to data: historiographies of rape in Former Yugoslavia and the gendering of genocide' (Patterns of Prejudice, 2002) has been used internationally as a set-text for a variety of taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
After completing my PhD, I was employed as a Research Fellow at several universities. Between 2005-2009 I took time out of academia, to take up the post of joint CEO for a domestic abuse charity, leading the organisation on strategy, evaluation of service delivery, and funding.
Since joining the University of Southampton in 2010 I have led a variety of different interdisciplinary and mixed-method research projects; and have been successful in gaining RCUK funding for my research.
My co-authored book Continuity and Change in Voluntary Action (Lindsey and Mohan) which examines voluntary action between the period 1981 to 2017 was published by Policy Press in May 2018.
I have received RCUK funding for 3 research projects since I have been at Southampton:

Co-Investigator for ‘Discourses of Voluntary Action at two 'Transformational Moments' of the Welfare State, the 1940s and 2010s’, funded by the ESRC (ES/N018249/1).
- Principle Investigator for the ESRC funded project ‘Defining Mass Observation: using mixed-methods longitudinal analysis to increase knowledge of the Mass Observation Project's volunteer writers'. (ES/L013819/1)
- Principle Investigator for the ESRC funded project ‘Continuity and Change in Volunteering through times of economic prosperity and adversity: a mixed-methods longitudinal secondary analysis.’ (ES/K003550/1)
I was also the Principle Investigator for the 'Mental Health in Austerity' project, which was funded by the University of Southampton Social Sciences Strategic Development fund. This went on to be awarded funding by the Nuffield Foundation.
I led the 2012 project 'Mass Observers views on the Big Society and the capacity of individuals and communities to respond to the Localism agenda', which was funded by the ESRC through the Third Sector Research Centre.
