Research interests
- Philip has a number of research interests spanning climate and the carbon cycle:
- (1) Earth’s coupled physical climate and biogeochemical system;
- (2) The Anthropocene (including surface warming, sea level rise and ocean acidification);
- (3) Earth’s climate sensitivity and climate feedbacks;
- (4) Atmosphere-land-ocean carbon fluxes and carbon cycling;

Teaching
I currently teach on three modules: SOES6079 Climate and Climate Change; SOES2025 Ocean Data Analysis and Modelling; and SOES3015 Palaeoclimate.
I am also the Programme Lead in Oceanography.
